I had just recently finished a great article on scouting with Norwegian Elkhounds in the fall prior to hunting season. I got to thinking that I should have mentioned to all the those wondering what age you can scout with a pup at.

Spring Pups can be ready to scout by fall, hunting success with Norwegian Elkhounds
Norwegian Elkhounds grow fast and have instincts bred into them, so a spring pup can do a great deal of scouting by fall. We of course have spring pups now and coming, thus my thoughts went to outlining this.
Also, I had done an article 10 Years ago, same time of year on a hunt with six young males from Tora. I thought, oh man, I should go read that again, I did. Here is the link: https://www.kamiakennels.ca/Tora/predictable-males.html It is about 6 predictable sons of the magnificent Tora and Bram.
What is cool about this article I wrote ten years earlier, is that Willow and Karu are having a litter soon, as well Varja recently had a pup, as well Karia has pups, and some Jamthunds, Aurella and Varella. Willow of course, is a granddaughter of Tora. Varja is a granddaughter of Bram, how cool is it to be writing now all these years later about sons of Willow and Varja.
So these boys I mentioned in that article are about 6 months old, Finn, Jocko, Kobe, Gunnar, Torsten, Ryker. I have six month old photos in that article. What’s cool is that I have most if not all of them at older, more mature time frames in the photos of this article.
All these boys could scout like old world warriors at 6 months. A spring pup can handle scouting for hours and go day after day. You can not outwork them. They are alert, can focus, know what to do and you can guide and manage them with ease. They are work machines.
Instincts are bred in, so it’s a dream. You simply have to get them out to the region and keep up! haha, good luck. Best be in shape, but, you have six months from now to get in shape! No more carbs, sugar and junk food, meat and fish only! Empty that freezer, make room for the new Moose steaks and Roasts!
So yeah, I really wanted to post this article about these magnificent dogs as those coming are just like these rascals. Have you ever seen more magnificent dogs? Wasn’t that Tora / Bram combination incredible? Wow!
