Elkhounds are a very large part of man’s history with dogs. They are the oldest known breed that has been traveling and working with the family unit. Elkhounds as an ancient breed portray character traits that defy time.
Elkhounds Contribute To Childhood Development
Elkhounds are incredibly powerful models to children and excellent companions to assist in childhood development
Children have been known for centuries to learn from nature and specifically animals in nature, thoughts, behavior, respect, peace, calm, steady, but also protective skills, gender related skills and behaviors.
Dogs are one of the most important aspects of children’s behavior and bonding to nature as the dogs like the Elkhounds have a very close energetic bond to children. They respect and also protect children.
But it goes much deeper. Families in my opinion who have children should have Elkhounds as the dog of choice for the family to portray old ancient behavior. If a family has a chance and can get two dogs, a Male and Female Elkhound matched pair, this is one of the most important aspects in development with animals and children there is.
Children get to grow up and witness the interactive behaviors with a dog that is full instinctive behavior intact, they exhibit to the children all kinds of “Natural Ways”.
Take a very simple example of how male Elkhounds will always break trail. I have seen it over and over, literally thousands of times. Males will take and break the trail for the females and rest of the pack. The leaders and dominant males take place out front, pushing forward, clearing a path for those to come behind. Males will alternate, one goes, then another, then back to the first. Females always have a trail, rarely if ever do they break trail if a male is present. The hard brutal part of the trail is cleared for them.
Females are entirely capable of doing it, when you hike without males, they are entirely capable, but if the male is present, the instinctive nature is for the males to forge the path, clear the resistance so to speak.
The illustrations of males and females in a natural instinctive family of dogs, even if it’s just two, is profound. Over and over natural ways are revealed to children.
Today, our cultural behaviors have strayed in many ways from natural, from instinctive to much time spent by children perhaps in “unguided” unnatural behavior. Ancient Elkhounds bring all that back. Dogs are an incredible source of learning and skill building for kids.
I believe there is no greater animal to have around children than an ancient lineage Elkhound. I am totally aware almost all animals are helpful to children, but few have the ability to be beside, around, near and in full view of children as much as the guardian Elkhound dogs. Don’t get me wrong, other animals of nature exhibit great natural instinct behavior and skills, but the dogs of the family are what are with the kids the most.
Be cognizant of what behaviors you are bringing into your home, to bring forth for your children to watch and model. What message is portrayed, not only to behavior but to selection, history, reason for the dogs existence even. What was the reason your choice for the dog you had? What was the reason the dog you chose exists?
Sometimes folks will bring a dog into the home who is completely the wrong dog, bred for corrupt reasons perhaps, bred by corruption and greed, designed for no good deed, perhaps bred completely against all good. Why bring that negative energy into a home of children you have to ask.
Peer pressure tends to influence dog decisions, especially which dog. Many do not sit and think about the hours and hours, days and day, months and months, year and years of modeling the dogs will do for children. They forget all of that due to peer pressure, suggestive marketing, constant nonsense bombardment about “saving” and “rescuing”, all the while the message in that is wrong, fraudulent most times, and they forget to sit and think about what message will be given to the children by the dog.
Ancient lineage bred for a family purpose dog of thousands of years of careful breeding by diligent people are the Elkhounds. Behaviors not supporting the family, the children, the natural development and behavior have long since been bred out. Elkhounds are true family dogs, literally none deviate from family advancement, development and companionship.
Think carefully when selecting a dog about the behaviors your choice will impart to your children over the next 15-20 years. The entire developmental phase of a child can be accompanied and shared with a great Elkhound, or matched pair. I highly suggest a matched pair, nothing illustrates instinctive behaviors to a child than an Instinctive matched Male and Female Elkhound.
