What better way to get up into the mountains hiking in the fall than with a couple of Norwegian Elkhounds! I was up yesterday with Teeko and Kai, two related Kamia Kennels preservation breeding dogs. This is great way to enjoy the natural settings that you may not always go to, but because of the dogs you can explore a bit more remote terrain. Lots of times without the dogs we tend to stay on the trails and paths when it’s so cool to get up to different regions where no one goes. Having the dogs along is great as they are alert and excited to watch out for you as you hike. We tend to just enjoy our scenery and not focus so much on what’s around but the dogs, they live to focus. That is what they are for. It makes hiking the remote regions so great. I can stop and relax and the dogs will take a vantage point for a break after checking all around and we get to hike through regions with total splendor and no one around. In the last ten years of hiking remote regions I have met only 1 other person up there. Talk about my own personal space basically, haha. Get a Kamia Elkhound, get into the remote regions and relax.
