The pups a breeder has today has influence going back at least ten generations. Major influence from the past five generations.
Influence of past generations of Elkhounds
Past Generations have influence on present generations and having the ability to look at many generations is beneficial.
At Kamia Kennels we understand the influence of the past generations and are carefully selecting behaviors and instinctive traits in our outcross genetics and of course we carefully monitor all our existing ancient lines.
Our ancient lines have very little to no changes in behavior and trait implants, they are so consistent, litter to litter, pup to pup, generation after generation. The new outcross bloodlines we have to look back at the history of those dogs before we bring them in, then watch the litters from that point. Because our ancient lines are so strong, meaning almost all blood is carrying that as they are oldest, they rule in behavior and trait fixing so the outcross is somewhat muted per say, but still in there.
Knowing the backgrounds of both sides of the litter is very important for new owners. The more generations you can go back and look and the more dogs of those generations you can see the more confidence you can have in your pup.
Believe it or not, but in other operations, different breeders, you can’t actually see any other dogs than the existing pair, and you would be quite lucky even to see the existing pair. It’s an extremely rare day to find two generations at other operations, and almost zero chance of three generations.
At Kamia Kennels we have 4 and 5 generations on almost all litters, tons of related uncles, aunts, that sort of thing, hundreds and hundreds of dogs from those generations featured on our sites and galleries and you can see literally decades of the bloodlines. It’s so important for us as a preservation breeder to know the background for our preservation work, but it ultimately allows the folks getting the dogs to also see exactly what they can expect.
We are now raising our 5th generation foundation females and in another year they will be having our 6th generation pups. This is a very exciting time for Elkhound preservation as we are also now having our second litter of Fullblood Elkhounds on the ground. This is a monumental step in preservation and also in showcasing the strength and depth of our program as we have 5 generations on one side of that litter and 4 generations on the other in our program, not counting both lines are the oldest known lineages in the world.
We are proud to showcase our program, our current Elkhound pups, but we as a preservation breeder are extremely proud to showcase the past generations as they fuel the future.
Stop by the great Instagram page of Michael and Sarah and check out the pups on the ground now up there, seriously awesome pups.
