Hada a stunning Jämthund female was up on the back country trails high elevation with Jess and I this weekend. Hada is the prototype for the new rules of importation into the USA and she is getting her Desna training extended.
Desna training encompasses a wide array of skill building and early work. Hada is one of the females that was requested by the client to stay and complete further back country work, specifically a lot of it on long lead. The requirements of Hada are social and behavioral but also the ability to work the remote regions with a polite nature. The new clients Diana and Jonathan have high probability of encountering other dogs and people on the trails, so social skills are important.
The backtrails and excursions also requires that she remain focused on work, instinctive ability at the forefront and awareness.
Jess and I both noticed that she is extremely aware at all times. She can literally tell us where all things are by her actions, it’s fascinating to watch her work. She is a high air scent female, head is always up, mouthing, scenting, very cool to work with her.
We were in a high density bear region yesterday and fresh scat all over, tons of bear there and so her head was on a swivel, lots of environmental aspects for her to develop in.
Hada will be 6 months before she goes home, she is literally a match for all the new requirements that the USA CDC implements soon. Hada has her 3 sets of boosters, her Rabies and she will be six months old. It’s not required for all of the new steps till August first but she is ready for the new system of requirements.
Kamia Kennels has been at the forefront of preservation breeding and is North America’s only Jämthund breeder so it is basically only us that has to follow these new rules for Jämthunds and it’s no problem for us as we already do all of the required steps anyway, I personally think the CDC just took a look at what we already do as a breeder and said, hey, let’s just do that. haha. No, they might have other reasons, but, you know….
For most breeders of other breeds, literally all in Canada, they will have to close export operations, they have no situational ability, no facilities, training programs, etc. to work with these new guidelines. For many or almost all breeders in Canada this is a closure of all USA sales. Only Kamia Kennels will be able to handle this easily and correctly.
For those families that like to travel with a pup from Canada to the USA, just ordinary folks who got a new pup and want to go for the weekend to a ski trip, or resort, or just to travel to see friends, now, it’s not going to be taking the pup. If the pup qualifies under all new guidelines and is six months old, yes, then they can, but not before. The pup will have to stay home.
Bring a pup up or a dog up from USA to travel through Canada, that also has new guidelines, so be careful you don’t forget to check them all and your pup ends up in quarantine for a month in facilities.
Kamia Kennels will work to facilitate the crossing of the border with our pups with the USA authorities, we will match or exceed as always all requirements. No pup has ever failed entry to the USA from our facility and we don’t plan to start now. We have the best dogs in North America, it’s no wonder many of our American friends come to us for their pup. Many American families of course have multiple dogs of ours, with some families into their 3rd and 4th. We encourage all American’s wishing to get a Great Elkhound to contact us, we can make it work well for you.
Hada, the beautiful Jämthund we worked with this weekend is a prime example of excellence and ability to fit all requirements. She is a stunning female.
