Those with ancient family history from the Scandinavian regions, hunting families long with dogs will know of what I speak today.
Blessed Be The BobTail Dog!
Hiking the high country with Ark, a BobTail Jamthund!
Centuries pass, information handed down, almost always verbally and with actual experience. Dog cultures are very familiar with sayings, things we use today to describe things without really knowing exactly what they mean, but sayings and phrases were born of old when witnessed. A familiar one is “Give a dog a bone”. Basically today means to shut someone up. They rarely mean the actual dog, but the phrase came about because they wanted to dog to be quiet.
“Dog Pile” is another, of course kids use it all the time when playing, but it really was a great deal of pups or young dogs piling up while playing that it came about. “King Of The Hill”, ever watch young pups on a hill, or snow bank, you know exactly where it originated.
The “Keeper of the Gate” one of the most famous of course, went back centuries to the old cultures that left a great dog at home with the family while the Man of the house and other dogs went to hunt. The dog that stayed had to be so courageous and know how to keep the gate safe, keep the yard and family safe.
It’s not often we hear anymore the saying “Blessed Be The BobTail!” It’s a rare event in certain breeds, with the Swedish Elkhound also known as the “Jämthund” one of the oldest known breeds to have “BobTail” genetics.
Years ago, around the campfires after the hunts, or early mornings waiting for dawn, those with the good fortune to have a “BobTail” had uncanny success and it became apparent to all who saw that a special quality, a fullness a richness came with the “Sign”. Some call it righteous, others say Blessed, many know that certain dogs just come along that are superior. It has always been over the history of the breed that the the distinct tail was almost always attached to a genetically superior dog. One who for sake of a better description today, means Special, or Gifted.
Many say he who breeds the “BobTail” is also granted a fullness, a calm nature, one who can overcome all obstacles. Maybe this was a result of early shock with seeing it, not knowing, then striving harder, who really knows but the early speakers. However today after many centuries everyone know that those breeders who work to preserve old heritage, well they almost always see events, unique things, they get “Blessed” for lack of a better term with the full range so as to preserve them for future generations.
I have been gifted this ultimate experience, not just once, but twice. Today, I speak about the first time, it was a unique time. Of course my very first litter of the famous Jamthund Aina, mated to the Incredible Rico produced only 1 pup. Ark, a BobTail!
Imagine the feeling the old ancient stories, memories of things I most definitely had not heard, but now filled my head. Can you imagine how you sometimes “Know Things Are Good” when really you have not been in the situation before. This is a small part of it for me.
Ark has proven to be a very special dog. There is no doubt he is “Gifted”, he has skills and the ability to exceed all expectations. His talents are barely touched in fact so vast is his “knowing”. He exceeds and excels in “Ancient Traits” which only real dog culture folks can perceive really. Almost hard to explain without a novel.
But to say Ark is “Blessed” that is easy. He has been given skills combined of the best dogs in history, all seem to have converged on him. Its no small wonder that he arrived as the very first male in Canada born here to create the Gene Pool for this genetic set on this continent.
To be part of such a special time frame in the world of history of great dogs is quite amazing. Ark has his first daughter nursing pups, she was Aurella. Born of the mating of Ark and Varella. She is nursing Posso pups now.
Ark himself has a second litter on the ground at the same time again with Varella. What are the odds of the events that lead to two litters, hundreds of miles apart at different co-breeders and the Daughter and Mother are so prolific and synchronized to have litters at the same time. Dog cultures know this happens, we know, but still you can not be amazed at their “Knowing”.
So to experience this time frame and witness Ark fulfill his true destiny and to share his gifts with the world of dog culture families is a very special feeling. Ark also now as well has the ability to utilize further his skills and ancient traits as he is now at Michael and Sarah’s, our co-breeders. They have young children, live a remote lifestyle, similar in many ways to old ancient culture and ways, phased into all the new but this allows Ark the opportunity to awaken. Come to full excellence. His future is bright, his heritage already preserved, but more great things await. You will be amazed at the story I will share in the near future of another unique litter Ark has, that is to come, for today enough, the sun rises over the mountain.
For me, I have seen some things alright, there is no doubt, crawling in my diaper around the great grey dogs and still today being amazed. But here I sit, writing about another amazing dog, an experience that grows only better each day. I know this, those that get those pups, I truly hope they appreciate the “Gift” the Uniqueness, the fullness and richness that comes with a genetically complete pup of Ark or his Grand pups.
Blessed Be The BobTail! How true, how true indeed!
