Norwegian Elkhounds trace back much farther than 100 years and in fact are known to trace thousands and thousands of years. Here at Kamia Kennels North America’s only preservation breeder we are able to showcase at minimum 100 plus years of diverse genetic strength and excellence easily.

Norwegian Elkhound Males - Foundation Breeding Excellent Genetics Carry Forward 100 Plus Years
We are known to be raising some of the oldest known genetic lineages, with some of our lines going back older than say, the entire history of the German Shepard breed. What’s unique about our program though as compared to many other breeders is that our lines are so diverse and strong.
GSD as I will use it as reference, well they literally trace to 1 dog. Whereas the Elkhound traces to hundreds and hundreds. The genetic diversity is what powers the health and strength of the breed of Elkhounds.
I’ll show you a photo of 4 exemplary males, males of profound influence in our program. You will be hard pressed to know which is the oldest male, which is the youngest. But, I’ll fill you in.
In the top two, Teeko is the youngest of the four, he is on the right. Many generations back the big fella on the top left he provides genetic power and influence to Teeko, through to our pups today. Roughly 70 years between them.
In the bottom Row Teeko’s brother Jaegar is on the left, the big fella on the right is the oldest of the four as he is born roughly 100 plus years ago. He powers the genetics in our program as well. What’s interesting is they all look pretty much identical, as they should, but even with countless decades between them it’s clearly evident that these boys all hold true. No mistaking they are all full tilt males. No mistaking they are all genetically strong and healthy, sound and robust.
Our goal is to keep this robust genetic diversity and strength going in our program. We don’t conform to nonsense practices, we don’t breed for looks, but we do breed for diversity, instinctive ability, behavior and capability. Handler focus is always our priority with our program as without that we are simply missing one of the main ingredients in a proven old world ancient Elkhound.
We are going to be bringing into our genetic program one of the famous Jaegar son’s. Merle, he is down with John in IL and we will organize to have John bring him up when Varja cycles. We are expecting to have a litter if we can work with John to make this happen.
We have Shogun also that we could utilize in our genetic foundation, he is a stunning male out on the Sunshine coast and we will find a way to integrate him as well.
Teeko’s son Jupiter is turning into such a magnificent male that we most likely will retain him into breeding as well. We will bring old world new diverse bloodlines in for him, he is so magnificent.
A breeder has to look ahead for a fact, you have to plan out the direction of your program, but make no mistake you have to look back and see, compare, view how the boys of today match up to those old warriors. You have to know that the old boys were sound, solid breeding males exhibiting exceptional quality to have lead the genetics this far and still be outstanding. We want to continue this.
