Raw food has been fed to the Elkhound for centuries. As the oldest known breed of dog the Elkhound has been fed raw the longest. Processed food just came on the scene only some decades ago and most Elkhound breeders have not fed it at all yet.
Kamia Kennels as a preservation breeder, we have lineages in our program that have NEVER been fed processed, only RAW for the entire life of the lineage. Yes, thousands of years of raw food and our dogs are by far the healthiest on the planet. That is not smoke and mirrors, everyone knows that.

All this nonsense about grains, peas, legumes, rice, synthetic vitamins, rancid seed oils, good gracious, why would a person get a Heritage preservation lineage Elkhound with no known defects in the lineage to date, and then feed it carcinogenic garbage? Give your head a shake.
How do you think the healthiest pups in the world, fantastic reproduction rates, exceptional longevity, proven to excel are fed? RAW! Go Figure!

That old boy was still working as a stud and sired a litter at 12 years of age. He lived many years after that litter and was healthy the entire time. He was never sick, never in the vet, got his boosters, two sets and 1 rabies and that was it. Done for life. These are his great grand pups in the photos.
We have generations of great dogs at Kamia Kennels, folks just went home the other day with pups from Aspen and Karu, those are fifth generation pups in our program, fed raw, and those lineages are the oldest known lineages of Norwegian Elkhounds in the world. Again, that lineage is one that has been fed raw since the beginning. Thousands of years.
You want a healthy pup, a wonderful adult dog and a spry senior Elkhound, feed raw. Raw for life!
