Elkhound Preservation Begins With The Ability To Continue It

If we can’t continue to breed the great lineages we have because we don’t have the support from the greater preservation community, our clients, we of course would not be able to continue. In order for us to do the absolute best job we can, we need participation from the greater group, the ultimate end users, the families and individuals who want the Elkhounds as companions.

5 Generations of Kamia Kennels Elkhounds

Janine and Stefan and family represent 3 Kamia Kennels Elkhounds featuring 5 generations of the same lineage.

Kamia Kennels and our co-breeders have the very best clients of all dog breeders in North America, we have extensive range of clients that support us in every corner of North America and beyond as well.

We recently placed an incredible young Full Blood male Odi, which Michael and Sarah raised up at Golden Ring Elkhounds. This is just a stunning handsome young male. Truly a Rock Star and such amazing composure and steady demeanor and behavior. The Ultimate example of preservation breeding of the finest genetics.

This young male represents 5 generations of our program and Stefan and Janine have now introduced their third Kamia Kennels Elkhound with young Odi as number three.

All three of these are the same lineage, with Maya a daughter of Bram and Kamp and then years later, Nova came in as a Grand Daughter ( Karu and Tekla) now they will many years later again the young Full Blood Odi. Odi is the Great, Great, Great Grandson in this lineage, he is a son of Revna and ARCO.

We Thank Janine and Stefan for working with us for so many years and allowing us to share in the opportunity to provide them and their family with the Great Family Companion the Elkhound. Janine shares her early thoughts on Young Odi.

Hi there Merv, Michael and Sarah

I just wanted to send an email to update regarding Odi settling in here with us.

This dog is something else. He is honestly the calmest, most solid dog. Maya and Nova have been excellent and they are such good dogs, but there is something honestly very special about Odi. He has been fitting in with our routine seamlessly. There is no excessive barking or whining. There is no pacing or anxious behaviour. He essentially trained himself to use his dog pen when he is indoors. I put his flat dog bed in there and he just goes to it when it is bed time. He has had minimal accidents in the home.

He adores Maya and Nova and has integrated himself into their unit. Nova loves playing with him, but she is also just so gentle. As he has been growing, they are enjoying a good tussle. Maya has been amusing. She has been taking it upon herself to lay down the law and “put Odi in his place” whenever he and Nova are having too much fun in her opinion. She is never rough, but she is making it clear that she is the boss around here. Odi just takes it in his stride. He is so respectful to them and also to the cats.

Odi had a check up at the vet today, and Stefan reports that he was beyond impressed with his physique and demeanour. He could not stop telling Stefan how unusual it is to see a dog so calm at a new vet’s office and what a beautiful dog he is. He told Stefan he was jealous and wishes he had a dog as special as Odi.

From our side, we have been handfeeding Odi up to this point to foster a soft mouth and to limit resource guarding with the other dogs. They have to each wait patiently for their turn and he has been excellent. I have taken to some clicker training which I also did with the other dogs. Our elkhounds are whip smart when it comes to picking up commands such as sit, stay, down, up etc. Odi has been no exception.

He has been walking on our 2 and a half acre property daily and his recall is so good for a young pup. I fully understand the “T-rex” adolescent phase is coming, but my goodness, are we off to a great start.

We sincerely want to thank you for selecting this outstanding dog to join our pack.

Yours sincerely
Janine and Stefan”
